Havebury to mark Big Energy Week with advice session for tenants

Becoming energy efficient, changing tariffs and switching fuel suppliers will be just some of the topics explored at an advice session run by housing association Havebury next week.

The event on Wednesday, January 18 at Havebury House in Bury St Edmunds is being held to mark Big Energy Week, a nationwide campaign launched by energy regulator Ofgem and the Citizens’ Advice Bureau.  There are limited spaces available so booking is advisable.

Havebury Chief Executive Karen Mayhew said: “The session is open to our 6,000 tenants. Visitors will learn how to choose the right tariff for them to ensure they are not paying too much for their gas or electricity bills.

“We will also explain how to change energy supplier and to weigh up seemingly good deals that might not benefit them in the long term.”

Tenants are advised to bring along their fuel bills to gain tailored advice and support.

Mrs Mayhew added: “There are so many different service providers and tariffs on the market that it can be quite overwhelming.  This advice session will help tenants decide what is best for them.”

The session will also signpost participants to other energy support available.  This includes the Home Heat Helpline, a free advice line for customers who are having trouble paying their fuel bills.

Havebury, which has offices in Haverhill and Bury St Edmunds, is dedicated to serving both the existing and future housing needs of people in West Suffolk and parts of Cambridge.  A charity and not-for-profit association, it currently manages 6,000 homes.

Mrs Mayhew said: “We will be running two further energy advice sessions in the future, with dates to be announced in due course.”
