Havebury's Volunteer Dig at Great Whelnetham
Are you a budding archaeologist? Do you want to release your inner Howard Carter? If so, come and join us for a volunteer dig at our site in Great Whelnetham, near Bury St Edmunds.
In partnership with our colleagues at Allen Archaeology, we have an exciting opportunity for local residents to come along and join a volunteer dig.
We recently invited some pupils from Great Whelnetham Primary School to the old Erskine Lodge site to find out more about the Roman finds and to try their hands at digging in the pits - take a look at our video from the day. They had a great time and we thought it would be a great opportunity to offer this experience to the local community in the surrounding areas.
You'll have the chance to spend the day at the site and with supervision from a member of the archaeology team, you will have access to tools and a pit to aid with the dig.
The only things you'll need to bring with you are some refreshments for the duration of the day (there is a village store close to the site) and lots of enthusiasm!
We have two dates available and you can choose to attend either one or both dates (depending on numbers):
- Wednesday 1 August 2018 - 10:00 - 16:00
- Wednesday 8 August 2018 - 10:00 - 16:00
Please note that to avoid disruption to the teams working onsite, we are limited to allowing 10 members of the public on each dig.
If you would like to sign up to attend, please complete the form below. If you have any questions, please email email@example.com.
