The social housing provider received planning permission from St Edmundsbury Borough Council last week to build 27 new homes to the front of Withersfield Road in Haverhill and the land behind.
The homes will be targeted at the over 55s and will meet the housing needs of those tenants currently residing at William Blake Court.
Scott Bailey, Head of Development at Havebury Housing Partnership, said: “This new development will allow older tenants to live in an area where they access a number of local amenities such as shops, library and supermarket.
“Delivering new, high quality affordable housing for our tenants is one of our top priorities at Havebury and this is just one of a number of new developments we have coming to fruition this year providing much needed affordable homes in the area.”
The development will consist of 14 one-bedroom flats, five one-bedroom bungalows and four two-bedroom flats. There will also be two lifts available to residents.
Demolition of the bungalows is expected to take place in autumn this year and the new development is anticipated to be completed by December 2014.
Havebury has pledged its support to the National Housing Federation’s ‘Yes to Homes’ campaign, which empowers local people to take part in debates about affordable housing in their area. More information can be found at www.havebury.com or www.yestohomes.co.uk
