Over £15,000 in the bin because of fly tipping

Havebury is determined to keep our community a green and pleasant area to live in and to visit. Unfortunately the number of fly tips on Havebury land has increased in the past six months and has cost over £15,000 to dispose of 236 recent incidents. Fly tipping is unsightly, unhygienic and often dangerous – and it is also illegal.

Havebury and St Edmundsbury Borough Council treat fly tipping very seriously and will work together to prosecute anyone caught dumping household, industrial and commercial waste illegally. Fly tipping is a serious criminal offence that carries a fine of up to £50,000 (unlimited if the case goes to the Crown Court) and offenders can even be sent to prison. It is also an offence to permit fly tipping.

If you are aware of any street cleaning problems, whether it is litter, fly tipped waste, dog fouling, abandoned vehicles and so on, please let us know and we can respond outside of our normal cleansing schedule or report it through to your relevant local authority.
