Havebury development wins RIBA Suffolk Craftsmanship Award

Havebury Housing Partnership is delighted to announce that our development at Mill Street in Mildenhall has won a RIBA Suffolk Craftsmanship Award. The announcement was made at an annual ceremony held at Trinity Park earlier this month. This follows our success in the UK Housing Awards where the development was shortlisted as a finalist from over 250 entries.

Havebury’s Mill Street, Mildenhall development provides twelve affordable homes through the conversion of a listed building and construction of new houses and apartments on this tight, town centre site.

Havebury purchased a former builders merchant shop and yard located in Mildenhall town centre, which had been derelict for ten years.

The site, which adjoins a churchyard, included listed buildings of a range of ages, the oldest dating back to the mid-seventeenth century, alongside the more recent Victorian street-fronted building on Mill Street.

Dating in part from the 16th century, these semi-derelict, historic buildings have now been sympathetically restored using appropriate, traditional methods of construction.

Scott Bailey, Development Director at Havebury Housing Partnership said: “It is an honour for this development to be recognised by RIBA Suffolk and this award is testament to the hard work and investment Havebury and our partners put into the restoration and new build.

Not only have we brought an old building back to life, but we have been able to provide affordable new homes with character in an area where they are so desperately needed.

We would like to thank all of our partners involved in this project including Rees Pryer Architects, Orwell Housing and SEH French.”
