Great Whelnetham – Volunteer dig

We enjoyed an exciting opportunity for local residents and children to come along and join a volunteer dig.

Budding archaeologists came to release their inner Howard Carters. They joined Havebury at a volunteer dig at our site in Great Whelnetham, near Bury St Edmunds.

In partnership with our colleagues at Allen Archaeology, we enjoyed an exciting opportunity for local residents and children to come along and join a volunteer dig.

We recently invited some pupils from Great Whelnetham Primary School to the old Erskine Lodge site. They were tasked with finding out more about the Roman finds and to try their hands at digging in the pitt.

They had a great time and we thought it would be a great opportunity to offer this experience. To involve the local community in the surrounding areas and had the chance to spend the day at the site and with supervision from a member of the archaeology team, had access to tools and a pit to aid with the dig.

If you would like to sign up to attend future events like this please email communications@havebury.com.
