Havebury cyclists getting ready to WoW for charity

A team of Havebury ladies will be getting on their bikes this July to ride up to 70 miles in aid of St Nicholas Hospice.

What is Women on Wheels (WoW)?

Havebury is sponsoring the Women on Wheels (WoW) ride this year. Starting at 8.30am in Bury’s Nowton Park on Sunday, July 7. It’s the sixth year the event has taken place in the town, with all proceeds going to the hospice.

The event is open to cyclists over the age of 12, with entrants of all abilities invited to take part. They can choose between riding 10, 25, 50 and 70 miles on the day.

Havebury Chief Executive

Havebury Chief Executive Andrew Smith said: “Havebury is really proud to be sponsoring the Women on Wheels event in Bury St Edmunds. In doing so, supporting the vital services that St Nicholas Hospice provides. It is great to be supporting an event that promotes community cohesion. We’re sure it will be an enjoyable day out for all involved.”

More about the event

WoW Bury St Edmunds is one of four WoW events across Suffolk this year. The event is organised by Abbeycroft Leisure in partnership with Suffolk County Council. The event is supported by specialist bike retailer Revel Outdoors.

Early birds can secure 25 per cent off the fee for the 25, 50 and 70 mile rides if they sign up by March 31. For the first time, there is a discount for combined entry to the Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury WoW events.

Last year, the Bury ride attracted around 230 riders and raised £6,748 for the hospice. This money provides help, advice and support to people who are living with long-term and life-threatening illnesses.

Hospice community fundraiser George Chilvers said: “We’re delighted that Women on Wheels has become a permanent fixture in our fundraising calendar and we’re ever so grateful for the wonderful amount raised and all the support that we have received.

“It’s thanks to the amazing support from events like WOW Bury that we are able to continue offering the vital services we provide throughout West Suffolk and Thetford.”

We’ll see you at the finish line!
