Q&A with Lucy Adams our resident engagement officer

We caught up with Lucy Adams to talk about what the future of tenant engagement looks like here at Havebury.

Hi Lucy, welcome to the team. Your new role plays a crucial part in delivering the objectives of both our customer and tenant engagement strategies, thank you for taking the time to tell us a little more about it.

Firstly, can you tell us a bit more about your role?

As it says in my job title, my role is to engage with our tenants, leaseholders, and shared owners to make sure their voice is being heard. We want our tenants to be able to have their say, in a way that suits them, on the services we provide, including important policy changes. We also want to understand what our tenants’ priorities are when it comes to their home, their tenancy, and their community as this will help us tailor our engagement to what matters to them. Our tenants truly are at the heart of everything we do and I am looking forward to increasing engagement over the next 12-months and beyond.

What excites you most about your role?

I want to be the ‘go to person’ for tenant engagement and I am excited to get out there, meet our tenants and learn more about what matters to them. I know the last 2 years have been uncertain and with restrictions in place, a lot of our engagement has been virtual. Hopefully, we have finally turned a corner and can begin meeting up in person again. We have lots of tenant consultations scheduled over the next few months and I am excited to see the outcomes of these. Our communication with tenants is always evolving and it’s going to have a real impact on how our tenants can influence our services going forward.

Tell us a bit more about you

For the past 18 years I have worked for a regional charity called Ormiston Families, I have worked in a variety of roles but predominately managing three projects within Suffolk prisons which was very rewarding. It was a great organisation to work for and I met some fantastic colleagues and service users over the years.

I have been involved with Havebury for some years now, I started as a Board member, chaired the Operations committee, and I was a member of the Tenants’ Forum. It is great to continue working with the Tenants’ Forum but from a different perspective.

In my spare time I like to listen to my audio books and walk my dogs.

What three words would you use to describe yourself?

This is a difficult one to answer, I would normally want someone else to answer this, perhaps approachable, kind, empathetic, well I hope that is how people would see me, it’s how I would like to be viewed by others.

What three words would you use to describe Havebury?

I feel Havebury is welcoming, effective and forward-thinking

What is your favourite quote or a quote that you live by?

This really resonates with me “Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.”

And finally, if you had an extra hour in the day what would you do with that hour?

Probably eat cake 😊

Thank you, Lucy, it’s been a real pleasure getting to know you. If you are a tenant and you feel you want to get involved in a range of things throughout the business please email Lucy at residentinvolvement@havebury.com or you can sign up to The Place here.
