Meet the Audit & Risk Commitee
Welcome to the Audit & Risk Committee - Robert Everitt
As Chair of the Audit & Risk Committee, I would like to personally welcome you to our team. The Audit & Risk
Committee focuses on Havebury's plans, policies and procedures regarding audit, the management of risk and related matters. The committee undertakes detailed consideration of all matters relating to the audit and internal control arrangements of Havebury on behalf of the Strategic Board, and make recommendations where appropriate on such matters to the Strategic Board.
I have been a Havebury Board member since 2010, and now currently chair the Audit and Risk committee.
Robert Everitt (Chair)
I have been a Havebury Board member since 2010. I’m also currently a St Edmundsbury Borough Councillor for Minden Ward in Bury St Edmunds, I hold the post of Portfolio Holder for Families and Communities, I was elected in 2003.
The reason I became a board member back in 2010 was because my Borough Ward (Minden) has two Havebury estates within, Priors Estate and Westley Estate. It was the obvious step to take, as I would get closer to the residents and understand better what the issues were.
Being given the opportunity to represent the residents of both Priors and Westley Estates, I found myself in a position to help the Priors residents set up a residents association after the closure of their local pub. This association has been a great success, going from strength to strength.
I have lived in Suffolk for the past 39 years, 23 in the lovely village of Wickhambrook and the last 16 years in the town of Bury St Edmunds, I’m a keen cyclist, and squash player.
I’m very much a people person, which is why my career was in sales. I have 2 children and 3 grandchildren. I learnt very early in life, you only get out of it what you put into it, and so I have always enjoyed involving myself in the communities in which I have lived, Community Associations, Round Table, and Councils, Parish, Town and Borough. Being involved in civic life gives you the opportunity to protect and develop the area in which you live, that’s also one of the reasons I got involved at Havebury.
Clive Springett (Vice-Chair)
I was raised in Bury St Edmunds on the Westley Estate in what was then a Local Authority house. I first became involved with Havebury in the 90’s when I chaired a residents association and we worked very closely together, to deliver real improvements for the whole estate. I am currently a Borough Councillor representing a large number of Havebury’s tenants. I am passionate about housing and ensuring that there is suitable housing to meet EVERYONES needs. I have great respect and admiration for Havebury and when the opportunity arose to join the board I was very pleased when I was accepted. It is my ambition to ensure Havebury continues to deliver good quality, affordable homes for all.
I joined Havebury's Audit & Risk Committee at the beginning of 2016. I am currently employed as the Fire Safety Manager for a large supermarket chain. As part of a small team of safety professionals, I provide policies and advice on fire safety for around 2,000 shops, offices and warehouses. I served in the London Fire Brigade for over 20 years from the age of 18 and have continued to work in the Fire Safety industry ever since. I am proud of the time I spent as a firefighter during which I was involved in many serious incidents and rescues.
Having moved to Suffolk in 2010, I was looking for an opportunity to find out about and become involved in local issues, after a short spell of volunteering at a National Trust site I saw this opportunity at Havebury as being perfect.
I am married with two grown up daughters and a grown up step-son. I love to garden, cook, walk and play the occasional round of golf!
Helen Thomas joined the Strategic Board in March 2015 and was also appointed to the Audit & Risk Committee. Chartered Accountant qualified since 1991 with a decade of boardroom experience in a rapidly expanding property and financial services SME. Awarded Institute of Directors Chartered Director accreditation in 2004 regarded as the gold standard qualification of corporate governance and strategic direction. Fifteen years’ experience of risk management in banking, financial services and property. Helen is also a Trustee at Age UK Suffolk.
I joined Havebury's Audit & Risk Committee in October 2014 and still thrive from the role after two years.
I am currently European Chief Internal Auditor for Canada Life - a Life Insurance industry. I used to work for the accountancy and professional services firm KPMG as a Senior Manager.
I have experienced risk and internal audit professional having held senior Head of Audit roles at a number of FTSE companies over the past 20 years.
When the opportunity arose to join Havebury, I was keen to share his experience from other industry sectors and to help Havebury, its residents and wider community, in the continuing drive for affordable and sustainable housing.
I am also a qualified member of both the Institute of Internal Auditors and the Institute of Risk Management and actively involved in furthering progressive approaches in risk management and control for the benefit of the organisations I work with.
I'm a married father of three children living in Cambridgeshire and in any spare time that I manage to find, I enjoy travelling and anything that involves being outdoors.
