Street lighting
If you live in one of our housing developments built in the past five years, you can call us on 0300 3300 900 if you need advice about street lighting issues.
Most other streetlights are owned and managed by the county or borough council. If you spot a problem with street lighting and you are unsure whom you need to contact, you can use the gov.uk website to check.
There are exceptions to this, and the local county council website will help you understand who is responsible.
Public highways
Most of the roads, pavements and verges etc., are maintained by the county council. However, there are some exceptions. You can use www.findmystreet.co.uk to find out who has maintenance responsibility for an area.
Trees, hedges and shrub beds
We own some trees in our communities, and you can identify these by the tag that is attached to the tree like the one in this picture.
We conduct a tree survey every three years, the last one being done in 2023/2024. Tree surveys are carried out on all the trees, that we own, within our communal areas.
Any trees in your garden should be maintained by you, however if there is a concern over health and safety or potential damage to a home we will ask our rangers to take a look at this in the first instance.

Other trees may be the responsibility of your borough council. You can find a list of these on their website.
Our Grounds Maintenance team
The team aims to maintain all areas every four weeks, regardless of season. However, elements such as bird nesting season, means we are limited to the amount of hedge cutting we can carry out across our communities. We will still trim hedges to prevent any health and safety risks, but they only receive full cuts from October – March, once bird nesting seasons is over. It’s important to note that between October and February, our teams won’t be out cutting the grass. But if you do have an issue, you can report this to us in a number of ways:

For areas of grass that we are responsible for, you can report concerns on myHavebury using the “view grounds maintenance in my area” function. Alternatively, you can call our Neighbourhood and Estates team on 0300 3300 900 and enter extension number 7333 when prompted.
Some grass areas are managed differently and may be left longer before cutting to support the local environment and encourage plants, animals, and insects. This may mean some spaces are cut less often.
Your borough council are responsible for parks and green spaces, playing fields and recreation grounds, cemeteries, playgrounds (amenity areas) and grass verges. Please get in touch with them if there are any issues with these grassed areas.
Bins and recycling
If there is a bin store near your home, these are our responsibility to manage, but we do ask that everyone plays their part to keep them clean and tidy.
Every time we attend to overspilling bins and clean the areas, this costs extra money, which is generally something we service charge.
Your borough council deals with waste management and recycling.

Street cleaning
(including broken glass, a dead animal, dog foul and litter, drug waste, overflowing bins and road sweeping)
Street cleaning and maintaining public spaces is the responsibility of your borough council. You can report street cleaning issues online to them in most cases.
