Pre-tenancy training has been proven to reduce the risk of homelessness. It ensures vulnerable and young people get the support, skills and knowledge they need to manage a home of their own with confidence.

Ready Steady Rent

The training, designed by the Money House in Greenwich, has working with new tenants since 2012. Over 1,000 participants have been taught how to manage their own home and finances, giving them essential life skills and a base from which to grow.

Ready Steady Rent is delivered through a range of resources, creating a supportive environment. Participants are given fun, interactive quizzes and games, as well as facilitated discussions to build confidence and encourage understanding.

What does the training cover?

The training covers core topics as well as flexible modules. These depend on the group participants and what is most useful for them. Guest speakers from local organisations provide expert support and guidance, while there is practical learning like how to cook meals on a budget.

The course is three days long, but an extra day can be added to cover employment skills. This helps participants to apply for jobs and conduct themselves at interviews with confidence. Free lunch and refreshments are available for participants. The course is currently free, but a minimum of £25 is charged for last minute cancellations/no shows.

At the end of the course, participants receive a certificate of attendance.
