We have a fencing policy which clarifies our responsibilities in providing and maintaining fences around your home. You'll find the answers to some frequently asked questions below.

If you have any more questions about fencing at your property please email homeimprovements@havebury.com who will be happy to help.

Fencing Policy

  • My fencing is dangerous and 12 months is too long to wait. What can I do?

The wellbeing of adults, children and pets in your garden is your responsibility. We are not liable for any injury caused by fencing issues. If you consider the fence to be dangerous, please report a repair. One of our technicians will inspect the fence within four weeks and will advise whether we can make temporary repairs. We will also offer to remove the fence, but please note that we still may not replace the fence within 12 months.

  • What will my new fence look like?

We do not replace fences on a like-for-like basis. We will install 6ft timber fencing to public boundaries only, or a 3ft chain link with a 6ft privacy panel to dividing boundaries. We no longer offer the facility to pay to upgrade the fencing.

  • What happens if the fence is shared?

If your fence is shared with a homeowner, Havebury cannot force them to contribute to its replacement. In addition, no repair or replacement can take place without their consent. This is the legal advice from our solicitors. If the repair/replacement of the fence is made due to deliberate damage, the relevant party will be expected to pay for the works via a recharge.
