Ellie is starting life in her dream home

Ellie Birdseye recently purchased her home through our shared ownership scheme in Wickhambrook, where she lives with her two young sons.

Ellie herself grew up in Wickhambrook, and when this home came up, she couldn’t believe her luck. “I was really lucky; I have always said Wickhambrook would be my dream village to live in and raise my children.

“Me, my mum and my grandmother all went to the school here.I will be sending my son to the same school in September.”

What made Ellie think about Shared Ownership?

Prior to this, Ellie lived in Bury St Edmunds and unfortunately in 2020, had a change of circumstance which meant she had to sell her part of the house she owned. This led her to thinking about shared ownership opportunities.

“I knew I wouldn’t be able to get onto the full market on my own, as I work part-time and have two boys to look after. “I thought shared ownership was going to be great opportunity for me to stay on the ladder using the money from the house I sold.”

Ellie describes how she registered her interest in the property with ByChoice Estate Agents before the property had even been built. “I told them I wanted to view the property as soon as I could, and 6 months later I got the call to say I could come and see it. The minute I saw it I snapped it up.”

Something positive has come out of a tough time for Ellie and she is now in the community she wants to be and raise the boys in a village that feels like home to her.

What was the shared ownership process like for Ellie?

Ellie describes the shared ownership process with Havebury as “amazing”.

“Any time I spoke to Havebury to get an answer about anything, I got one straight away. Even the site manager came and introduced himself. He was on hand to help, I felt like I could go to him if I needed anything.”

She was also impressed with the attention to detail in and around the home.

“Little things like the shed, the clothes line in the garden, things that make life that little bit easier. I never thought I would be able to live in a village like this, be a single parent and be able to afford it. I am so excited to see what the future holds.”

We wish Ellie all the best in her new home.
