Looking after your area

Thank you to everyone who has attended our estate inspections so far. Since restarting these, we have had lots of feedback on how we can improve your local areas and how we can help you look after your area.

We have more estate inspections coming up this year. To find out when one is happening near you click here.

You told us at these inspections, it can be difficult to know who to contact for certain issues, so we’ve pulled this guide together.

Street lighting

If you live in one of our housing developments built in the past five years, you can call us on 0300 3300 900 if you need advice about street lighting issues.

Most other streetlights are owned and managed by the county or borough council. If you spot a problem with street lighting and you are unsure whom you need to contact, you can use the gov.uk website to check.

There are exceptions to this, and the local county council website will help you understand who is responsible.

Public highways

Most of the roads, pavements and verges etc., are maintained by the county council. However, there are some exceptions. You can use www.findmystreet.co.uk to find out who has maintenance responsibility for an area.

Trees, hedges and shrub beds

We own some trees in our communities, and you can identify these by the tag that is attached to the tree like the one in this picture.

Tree tag

Any concerns can be reported to us via myHavebury using the “report a tree issue in my area” function. Or you can call our Neighbourhood and Estates team on 0300 3300 900, and enter extension number 7333 when prompted. You can also email the team at myarea@havebury.com

Other trees may be the responsibility of your borough council. You can find a list of these on their website.

Grass cutting

For areas of grass that we are responsible for, you can report concerns on myHavebury using the “view grounds maintenance in my area” function. Alternatively, you can call our Neighbourhood and Estates team on 0300 3300 900 and enter extension number 7333 when prompted.

Some grass areas are managed differently and may be left longer before cutting to support the local environment and encourage plants, animals, and insects. This may mean some spaces are cut less often.

Your borough council are responsible for parks and green spaces, playing fields and recreation grounds, cemeteries, playgrounds (amenity areas) and grass verges. Please get in touch with them if there are any issues with these grassed areas.

Bins and recycling

If there is a bin store near your home, these are our responsibility to manage, but we do ask that everyone plays their part to keep them clean and tidy.

Every time we attend to overspilling bins and clean the areas, this costs extra money, which is generally something we service charge.

Your borough council deals with waste management and recycling.

Please get in touch with them if you have any issues with refuse collection, want to know your collection days or anything else.

You can also use the gov.uk website to find your collection day.

Street cleaning

(including broken glass, a dead animal, dog foul and litter, drug waste, overflowing bins and road sweeping)

Street cleaning and maintaining public spaces is the responsibility of your borough council. You can report street cleaning issues online to them in most cases.

You can find out more about street cleaning on the gov.uk website here.

If you are concerned about hardstanding areas and are unsure if we are responsible for these, you can identify our land and report concerns via myHavebury using the “view grounds maintenance section in my area” function.

Alternatively, you can call our Neighbourhood and Estates team on 0300 3300 900 and enter extension number 7333 when prompted.

Fly tips

You can report fly tips and abandoned vehicles on our land via myHavebury using the “report a fly tip in my area” and “report and abandoned vehicle in my area” function.

Alternatively, you can call our Neighbourhood and Estates team on 0300 3300 900 and enter extension number 7333 when prompted.
