Community Investment Grants

Community Investment Grants

Our grants fund benefits our wider communities, as well as our residents.

We have a new strategy for these grants from 2022, which you can see here.

Please note that we have no more grant availability for this financial year, and for this reason, we will not be taking on any more applications. Please check back again in April 2023 when our new application cycle is due to start.

Our criteria for funding:

  • Your project must be for the benefit of the community on a not-for-profit basis.
  • It must identify a specific need.
  • It needs to be within five miles of one of our homes or estates.
  • You will need to provide a detailed financial plan.

Some of the projects we have previously funded include:

Combat2Coffee

Combat2Coffee

In 2021, Combat2Coffee applied for a grant of £2,742.66 which they put towards improving the kitchen at their new location in Bury St Edmunds.
Combat2Coffee is the brainchild of former Royal Anglian soldier Nigel Seaman.

Major Ian Robinson, Nigel’s former regiment colleague and Combat2Coffee volunteer, explained: “He had the idea that if you sit and have a chat over a cup of coffee, you can work through some of your issues. It’s not rocket science, but simple ideas tend to work.”

Horringer Acorn project

Acorn project

In 2020, Horringer pre-school applied for £10,000 to go towards their Acorn project. This involved the construction of a purpose-built building allowing families to get involved in nature activities, support a sensory room, increase the capacity at the preschool, as well as be able to host community events.

Kirsten Goodwin who was involved with the project said:

“Thank you so much again to Havebury for their grant, we are enormously grateful! The project would not have been possible without it – especially as it came at a crucial time for us”

  • How much money can I request for my project?

There is no minimum or maximum sum for which you can apply. However, we are unable to fund the entire cost of a project. Our panel wants to see that you have raised some money yourself, and that you have made applications to other funding sources where possible.

As a guide, a typical application has a project total of between £4,000 and £5,000, and the sum applied for would be between £1,500 and £2,500. On occasions, we have been one of up to 16 funders for big projects. On others, we have been the sole external funder for a small project.

  • Can we apply again if we have already had a grant?

Yes. If your project is different to the previous one, and you fit our criteria above, then you can apply for a grant. The only condition we may make is that other applications are assessed ahead of yours.
