Tenant awards: Neighbour of the year

Thank you to everyone who took part in our Tenant Awards over the summer last year. It was great to read through these. Here are some of the nominations for the 'Neighbour of the year', as well as the winner, who was picked by our chief executive, Andrew Smith and Chair of our Board, Howard Cresswell.

Dawn and Ruth

Ruth nominated Dawn and here she explains why:

“I nominated Dawn as I feel she is a good neighbour. She has helped me through lockdown as we were able to become a ‘bubble’ and this was a real-life line for me as I had just had a baby and needed that support which I couldn’t get anywhere else. We have been able to help each other with different things including dog care and babysitting.

When I had covid, she came with a ‘care package’ and did the same when my eldest son missed Halloween due to covid.

Sometimes someone doesn’t have to do something outstanding for it to impact their community. The little things add up, and that deserves recognition too.”

Sophie nominated Jennifer and here she explains why:

“Jenny is a wonderful woman. No matter what is going on in her life, she always goes above and beyond to help her neighbours. She has such a kind heart and a delightful character. After undergoing two hip replacements, divorce and many
losses of family members over the years, she still manages to welcome everyone with a beautiful smile and a great sense of
humour.

She can cheer up anyone’s day as soon as she enters a room. A wonderful woman, mother, neighbour, and friend to all over the years. I could not think of anyone more deserving of a reward for all the love and support she has offered so many.”

Neighbour of the year winner!

Kelly nominated Sharon, and here she explains why:

“This lovely, kind neighbour should be neighbour of the year; she cuts three neighbour’s lawns every week, as they find it hard to keep on top of them. She keeps the street tidy and takes in parcels for her neighbours. She is the most kind and generous person I know.”

Sharon won a £100 Amazon voucher and a £100 donation to a charity she chose to donate to the children’s ward at West Suffolk Hospital.
